It’s Yamaroody Mama here, enjoying some vacation time. The past few months have been spent driving to and from ballet practice and working on costumes. The Nutcracker has taken over our lives and I wouldn’t trade one minute of it for anything. It has been such an amazing time filled with one of my favorite hobbies; sewing!
People have all sorts of things they do to pass the time. Hobbies can include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements. Well, Yamaroody Mamas don’t have much free time, but when our busy lives get filled with what we love to do, it’s Yamaroody!
I learned to sew at a very young age watching my grandmother and great grandmother as they would knit and crochet. I would watch my grandma in front of the sewing machine and couldn’t wait until I had a machine of my own. Time passed and one day I got the chance to alter some dresses for girls at school. I loved it so much that I started to alter my own things and make skirts and dresses just to relax between exams. Instead of paying someone else, I altered my own wedding dress! I now get to use this talent for such wonderful shows as the Nutcracker.
Hobbies help us all to do something we love that makes us happy. In this crazy world, we all need a little moment of happiness and relaxation. Unfortunately, we live in a world where we are always going and going. Seldomly, do we get to sit back and just be.
A few weeks ago, my little girls requested to sit with me and sew! I love that they are finding such a great hobby to enjoy. Let’s all find time for ourselves and our hobbies and really enjoy every minute of life to the fullest. After all, our children learn from what we do and what better lesson than to find happiness in the little things!
